In light of the current circumstances we have decided to relaunch the adopt-a-raised bed at the Croft project! During this time, we can’t help but reflect on the things that matter and we feel learning to grow food is becoming a very useful life skill, which residents should have the opportunity to learn.
While our other group gardening sessions will be cancelled, we are confident that we can deliver this opportunity maintaining appropriate social distancing because the Croft is a secure garden, with beds over a meter apart. This is a great opportunity have a go at growing some vegetables, herbs and salad leaves in your own raised bed with support from an experienced grower. We will deliver this opportunity in line with the Government’s guidelines: groups from different households can’t apply this year and induction sessions may even be one-to-one. We will continue to check current Government advice and modify the opportunity in line with that, which means we can’t guarantee the exact day when successful Crofters will be issued with their raised bed and inductions will take place.
If you would like to have a go this year, fill in the new application form and email it to us by 9am April 13 (note: this is a new deadline). This year may not be the year to apply, if you already have health issues you are concerned about, we don’t want you to have anything else to worry about. Sadly we can only accept applications from residents who live 20 minutes or less from Queen’s Park recreation ground, where the Croft is located.
This year, we are growing the seedlings for you in pots, so the raised bed can be given to you at any point over the summer for you to plant up and you will still have a successful crop come harvest time. If you have already applied for a raised bed this year, your application is still valid, if you want it to be. We will be checking with all the people who have already made applications directly by email, so keep a look out in your in-box.
