Growing a Greener Glasgow

Welcome to South Seeds!

South Seeds is a community organisation based in the South Central area of Glasgow. We aim to work in partnership with residents and organisations within the local community to help improve the look and feel of the area. Under the climate challenge fund South Seeds is further developing the project to increase energy awareness and helping people learn more about growing food and reducing the amount of waste that we produce.

You can find out more about what we’re doing by visiting the projects section.

Here's what we've been up to

Getting housing association tenants involved in food growing.

South Seeds were approached by Yasmin Mann a resident living on Bankhall Street in Govanhill about getting other residents involved to improve a communal area in the centre of the block and behind each backcourt drying green. Tenement champions

We are working with tenement residents to improve the energy efficiency of their whole close.
Draughty closes with broken windows, ill-fitting front doors and inadequate insulation can all lead to making tenement flats even harder to heat. We’ve created Tenement Champions to support neighbours in taking simple steps to save money on their energy bills. Neighbours benefit from our expertise in making tenement closes more energy efficient including signposting to government initiatives, prioritising work that will have the greatest effect and finding out if landlords within the building are properly registered.
If you live in a tenement close in Queens Park, Govanhill, Crosshill or Strathbungo and would like to work with us, then get in touch. Call Lorna on 0141 636 3959.

South Seeds is looking for a volunteer

We’re currently looking to take on a volunteer who would help with the community engagement work at South Seeds and also help creating new community garden spaces. We would be able to provide the volunteer with a basic disclosure and also any training that would benefit the project. We’re looking for someone who would be able to work roughly 2 days a week, and be flexible working the occasional evening or weekend.
