Southside Tool Library
Welcome to Southside Tool Library
You can view the full inventory of tools here.
What is the Southside Tool Library?
The Southside Tool Library is run by South Seeds and funded by the Climate Challenge Fund. It enables residents living on Glasgow’s Southside to save money by borrowing tools for DIY and gardening rather than having to buy them. It also aims to generate ecological benefits through avoiding unnecessary use of the natural resources that go in to manufacturing new tools.
Who can join?
Anyone who lives in the South Seeds project areas of Govanhill, Crosshill, Strathbungo, East Pollokshields, Queen’s Park or Mount Florida in Glasgow can join. Our funding (the Climate Challenge Fund) dictates what areas the tool library can serve.
How do I join?
Bring the following to South Seeds’ base at 514 Victoria Road during opening hours:
• photo ID
• a separate, recent, proof of name and address (e.g. utility bill or delivery note)
• an annual membership donation of whatever you feel you can afford
We’ll also ask you to complete a membership form and sign the borrower’s agreement and liability waiver.
How much does it cost?
It is completely free to borrow tools. However, we ask for an annual membership donation of whatever you feel you can afford (suggested donation £20). This helps us to cover the costs of repairing and maintaining tools. The donation can be in the form of tools that we need rather than cash if you prefer.
How do I borrow a tool?
Once you have registered as a tool library member you will be emailed log-in details for the online inventory. Search the inventory for the tool you need and click ‘Reserve’ next to the tool image.
Select the reservation dates from the day you want to collect the tool during the tool library opening times (see below) to the day you will return it (tools can be borrowed for up to three weeks as long as no one else has reserved it). Please allow at least 24 hours for your tool to be ready for collection from the time you reserve it during opening hours.
If you are unable to collect the tool during tool library open hours you can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call South Seeds on 0141 636 3959 to arrange an alternative time.
Where do I return tools?
Return tools by the due date to South Seeds’ base during the tool library opening hours. If you are unable to return the tool during these times you can email email@example.com or call South Seeds on 0141 636 3959 to arrange an alternative time.
How do I get in touch?
The Southside Tool Library can be contacted through South Seeds on 0141 636 3959 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also drop in to South Seeds’ base at 514 Victoria Road between 9.30am and 4.30pm on weekdays. During January we will be open on Saturday afternoons.
