Spring has finally sprung and it’s the perfect time to get outside and get growing! South Seeds is running two gardening sessions each week this growing season. The sessions take place in the two beautiful community gardens we have built, both of which are not too far from Victoria Road.
Hidden away up Queen’s Drive Lane, accessible from where Queen’s Drive crosses with Langside Road, is a thriving community growing space ready for a new season of crops. Expect hot refreshments, muddy boots and friendly conversation, whatever the weather.
In this space you’ll also find the new community composting hub where you can bring your kitchen and garden waste to be transformed into nutrient dense compost.
Come along on Thursdays between 7pm and 9pm to Queen’s Drive Lane community garden to learn how to grow your own fruit and vegetables, get to know your neighbours and enjoy your share of the harvest. Sessions start at this garden on Thursday 11th May and run until late October. All welcome! There is no need to book, you can simply turn up, however if you would like more information get in contact.
Tucked in behind Ladbrokes on Allison Street in the heart of Govanhill is an urban oasis built with the help of local children. This wee community garden is a great place to feel transported from the city. Unfortunately it is only open when sessions are being run because there is a gate which is usually locked across the lane. Gardening sessions will take place on Tuesdays 4.30pm to 6pm. Come and join us, there will be hot refreshments and planting workings.
The first session at the Allison Street community garden will take place on Tuesday 16th May and the sessions will run through to late October. All welcome! There is no need to book, come down to the garden and join in.
