Over the last couple of weeks South Seeds has been supporting the Nan McKay Memorial Hall, a well-used community centre in Pollokshields, get set up with composting facilities. We worked with volunteers from the hall and showed them how to build animal-proof compost bins from old recycled pallets.
Once the bins were completed we supplied regular users from the hall with composting instruction manuals and caddies to keep in their kitchens.
Now composting facilities have been installed at the hall the users can recycle their used tea bags, vegetable peelings, egg shells, newspaper and cardboard – eventually turning this waste into rich nutritious compost which they can use to keep their garden in bloom and grow fruit and vegetables.
