South Seeds have built a number of community gardens. Here’s a film we made of a typical South Seeds community gardening session. During the summer, a session was held on a weekday evening at each community garden, every week. This is how the community built and planted the gardens. In this film, you can see the garden has been harvested and the growing season is nearly over. The weekly sessions have now stopped and there will be monthly sessions over the winter.
For those people not so familiar with the South Side of Glasgow, you can see from the film how the spaces, where we build community gardens, are nestled between tenement blocks. Many of the people who participate in the gardening sessions come from the surrounding blocks or a few blocks away.
Building the community garden has helped to reduce antisocial behaviour in an area which is densely populated and has a high crime rate.
